Stars from all over the entertainment and pro sports world have long helped to design clothing or been directly involved as a designer, but the new trend is cutting some new ground with a step forward by Madonna to not only help with the designs, but actually assist the process itself by leveraging the insight of her 13 year old daughter, Lourdes. The line is expected to meet what Madonna sees as a need in the consumer market for affordable juniors girl clothing and will start out at the retail chain Macy’s, where it will be offered as part of their upcoming seasonal line up. The line will be called Material Girl in homage to Madonna’s classic 80’s hit song and Lourdes is serving as the basis for the designs, adding an age appropriate stylistic eye to the process that should help girls her age get what they are looking for out of the clothing line. Most of the design decisions are being left to Lourdes so that the line itself ends up as appealing as Madonna hopes for.

The move is not Madonna’s first dip into the fashion world because she also worked with H & M back in 2007 to create a line of limited edition fashion products, but this is her first dive into the consumer level market at a retail level which will effect a far larger group of people. If sales bear out her vision, the pop star is expected to be making even more journeys into fashion to bring affordable clothing to more girls and women around the world.
